Project name: Helping Fayette, NC, Prepare for Growth
Client: BRAC Regional Task Force
Timeframe: 2007-2008
Purpose: To assist business and community leaders in the Fayetteville region in planning for growth connected to military base realignment and closure (BRAC). Planned military realignments and anticipated relocations of defense contractors will impact the greater Fayetteville community surrounding Ft. Bragg and Pope Air Force Base. The region expects an iinflux of approaximately 25,000 people by 2011. In partnership with a multidisciplinary team of analysts, researchers, and consultants, CSW will: map the educational resources available to prepare current workers for new jobs connected to BRAC and help families of relocated enlisted personnel transition to new jobs; and conduct a workforce analysis of the region, focusing on new demands on base and priority industries and jobs in the community.
Expected Outcome:
A clear, actionable plan for making effective use of programs, resources, and other workforce assets, and helping current firms and industries, new businesses, enlisteds and their families, and the communities in the 11-county region thrive.

Project name: Mid-Michigan WIRED
Client: Michigan State University, Prima Civitas Foundation, Mott foundation
Timeframe: April 2006-January 2009
Purpose: Engage in a 13-county community transformation project aimed at helping mid-Michigan communities invent their next economic lives.
Expected Outcome: Establishing meaningful collaboration among an identifiable network in the region (www.midmiinnovationteam.com), which may attract and sustain efforts toward the ultimate goal of continued prosperity and innovation within the region.

The creation of mid-Michigan's bio-economy, with an emphasis on alternative energies, supported by advanced manufacturing firms, a robust healthcare sector supported by career ladders and lattices connected throughout the region, and a network of support at all levels for entrepreneurs and small businesses in the region to find and utilize needed resources.

Current Activities:
  • Supporting regional identity and awareness through strategic support of public relations activities, town hall meetings, and development of regular written and digital video/audio communications.
  • Documenting -- for future learning and to help gauge progress -- the region's economic transformation process using variuos print, video and other electronic means.
  • Supporting sustainabiilty activity and initiatives, including strategic initiative alignment and proposal development.
  • Conducting an entrepreneurship asset inventory/map and developing 21st century methods for using the information to link service providers and entrepreneurs in need of technical support.
  • Assessing public opinion surrounding MMIT activities, mid-Michigan economic transformation, lifelong learning, and entrepreneurship.
